Porter Cooper was a very special guy and a true friend to many of us. I especially watched his devotion to Billy Boggan during his struggle with MS. It was a long and painful journey, and Porter was there with him to the very end. There could not have been a more loyal and caring friend than Porter. He was also a huge support to Billy's mother and his sister Brenda. Porter defined what true friendship is all about. Having known and loved Billy since childhood I appreciated Porter so much because of his devotion to Billy. I truly loved and admired Porter as did all who really knew him. He had a big heart, and he was a lot of fun too. Porter was cautious about coming to our class reunions because he didn't graduate with us, but if he didn't call us, we called him to make sure he was coming. He loved the reunions. We will have a grand reunion with Porter and Billy someday!
Indeed, Sheila. Porter was a pal since seventh grade at Graves Elementary. I last saw him about 40 years ago at the Pink Palace with his son. He was his same handsome self. I'm very sorry I missed him at the reunions. He was both fun-loving and caring.
